Entrepreneurial start-ups - The fifth wave of business trends

Image
The new age economy is giving a candid  message to entrepreneurs:  This is critical as  the entrepreneurs are  leading the world’s 5th wave of exponential economic growth: Up until 1780, world economic activity was relatively flat, with the Gross World Product (all economic value creation worldwide) under US $200  billion for over 5,000 years. The world then went through exponential growth over 200 years from 1800 to 2000, doubling every 20 years, with Gross World Product growing from US $ 200  billion to  $ 40  trillion. The four waves of exponential growth have been: 1. The Industrial revolution 2. The race for oil 3. Corporate capitalism 4. Financial markets Each wave grew and fell in power over around 50 years each.  Each wave led to a global transfer of wealth. Each age changed all the rules. In the 15 years from 2000 to 2015, despite a dotcom crash and global crisis, Gross World Pr...

Hacking into Growth – Design Thinking as a Strategy

Image
What is Design Thinking? It’s a practical way of solving problems  by "building up" ideas, with few, or no, limits on breadth during a "brainstorming" phase. This helps reduce fear of failure in the participant(s) and encourages input and participation from a wide variety of sources in the ideation phases. The phrase "thinking outside the box" has been coined to describe one goal of the brainstorming phase and is encouraged, since this can aid in the discovery of hidden elements and ambiguities in the situation and discovering potentially faulty assumptions. When design principles are applied to strategy and innovation the success rate for innovation dramatically improves. Design Thinking is a methodology used by designers to solve complex problems, and find desirable solutions for clients. Design Thinking draws upon logic, imagination, intuition, and systemic reasoning, to explore possibilities of what could be, and to create desired ou...

LEADING IN CHANGE - SIMPLE TECHNIQUES

Image
Guiding change may be the ultimate test of a leader—no business survives over the long term if it can’t reinvent itself. But, human nature being what it is, fundamental change is often resisted mightily by the people it most affects: those in the trenches of the business. Thus, leading change is both absolutely essential and incredibly difficult. Over the past decade, I have watched more than 100 companies try to remake themselves into significantly better competitors. They have included large organizations (Ford) and small ones (Landmark Communications), companies based in the United States (General Motors) and elsewhere (British Airways), corporations that were on their knees (Eastern Airlines), and companies that were earning good money (Bristol-Myers Squibb). These efforts have gone under many banners: total quality management, re-engineering, rightsizing, restructuring, cultural change, and turnaround. But, in almost every case, the basic goal has been the same: to make...

It’s a long way to come along for dreams to be translated into reality.  Especially if it’s a dream that is being brought into reality that will in turn translate multitude of dreams into reality. Yes!! Isn’t that interesting?   14 years ago this dream was conceived to assist in the space of innovation where a)       Ideation can be translated into demonstrated services or products using an incubator. b)       To become an accelerator and a catalyst to entrepreneurs and organizations in sustaining . c)       To bring a change by innovating and changing the habits of people, thinking differently to excel. d)      Stimulating change by approaching things in Creative and Open space culture. e)       Creating a replicable viral effect at the grassroot level and impacting social Change After many years of various trial and errors; fin...
