Hacking into Growth – Design Thinking as a Strategy

Image
What is Design Thinking? It’s a practical way of solving problems  by "building up" ideas, with few, or no, limits on breadth during a "brainstorming" phase. This helps reduce fear of failure in the participant(s) and encourages input and participation from a wide variety of sources in the ideation phases. The phrase "thinking outside the box" has been coined to describe one goal of the brainstorming phase and is encouraged, since this can aid in the discovery of hidden elements and ambiguities in the situation and discovering potentially faulty assumptions. When design principles are applied to strategy and innovation the success rate for innovation dramatically improves. Design Thinking is a methodology used by designers to solve complex problems, and find desirable solutions for clients. Design Thinking draws upon logic, imagination, intuition, and systemic reasoning, to explore possibilities of what could be, and to create desired ou...

MANTHAN 2013 a contest on INNOVATION and Bright ideas by FKCCI

Image
The market dynamics have changed for ever and since 2008 there is a churning that is happening in the undercurrent across all the aspects of trade , industry, social life style as well as the political structure. No longer do we have the incremental innovation that enables and evolves the industry from where is was to where it can go with the contemporary times and changing demands.Instead what we see now emerging on the landscape from the last 2 years, disruption innovation seems to have overtaken the world. The industry gaping for fresh ideas and thinking that is totally out of the box for retaining the market place and survival suddenly the focus is now on the universities where the creative energy is bubbling with possibilities and potentially as a haven for the innovators who are young and uncluttered from the old world model of workings. This is where innovation is now ruling the roost and even major innovation giants like IBM is making a beeline to such campuses where the...

The changing business paradigm and its impact on Indian SMEs in 2010

It is not the fittest who will survive the change but those who are having the ability to adopt to change – Charles Darwin Understanding the change that is hitting all of us and managing it has become almost the primary task to survive as a business enterprise The current change that is engulfing every industry with market volatility, rules being made and broken on almost daily basis, we are witnessing unprecedented churn that will bring in new breed of start ups and many of the old will sink. Many more even in the fortune 500 may not live to exist in the next 5 years. This is not to be mistaken as a passing storm but a permanent changed weather. Socially people are waking up to the fact all that we have known in the last 60 years and identified ourselves with in terms of prosperity, life styles, challenges, dependence, status symbol etc are completely disconnected with our natural support systems. Across the coffee table I find the discussion on ‘Greed’ quite intriguing as thi...
