The Mass Entrepreneurship panel discussion at the SVP sustainable livelihoods conclave on 16th March 2019 at NIAS IISc Bengaluru  was a resounding success and threw up some powerful insights. What is Localisation ?   Localisation, a trend diametrically opposed to globalization, is based on the belief that those living closest to the resource to be managed (the forest, the sea, the coast, the farm, the urban facility, etc), would have the greatest stake, and often the best knowledge, to manage it. Of course this is not always the case, and in India many communities have lost the ability because of two centuries of government-dominated policies, which have effectively crippled their own institutional structures, customary rules, and other capacities. Nevertheless a move towards localization of essential production, consumption, and trade, and of health, education, and other services, is eminently possible if communities are sensitively assisted by civil society organizations and the government. The energy to drive and realize the goal is something that keeps changing and raising the bar in performance that slowly after a period in time starts to engulf the space all around. But before this happens the energy is potentially captive in the dormant mode and in restive stage. Deep inside it’s incubating itself in the womb of time to flower at the right time and glow. But till then when energies are coming together often there is self doubts and judgmental perceptions that seems to be so overpowering that it makes one feel so insecure in anxiety and yet the bond of the INTENT keeps us going further and further. Without losing the sight of the INTENT on the landscape if we keep moving often the unseen and unimaginable potential can be unlocked when the energies all confluence together in synergic embrace on oneness.
