The changing times and the challenges for the Police Force

For 4 years tried so many ways to make a difference to the police department with the Project Parivartan that now has already crossed over 1 lakh people  recipients across India. What started as an intent to reach out to the people and energize the population to channelize the discontentment, frustration and anger emerging from the rapid changing environment and living spaces out of the cultural clashes, social conformity to a more energized and constructive effort in being change in action..today has reached a new frontier with the Police Force

The changing times calls for different role to be played and demands a more pro-active ability to comprehend and deal with people engagement. The Police have to be more a facilitator than a vigilante.

The increasing distribution of wealth and purchasing power of the middle class families besides the metros indulgent culture has brought serious issues like domestic violence, cyber offenses, gender rights, crime rates all amounting to tremendous amount of pressure and hard ship on the police force who are pulverized between the rising civic society and the aging systems monitored by leaderships that has lost link to the real current world. Yet they have a high sense of duty , sincerity in intent to resolve amicably and be the custodian of peace.

When Sri Shama Sundar H.S my esteemed colleague invited me to deliver a programme for the dept I felt this as a blessing since the effort was from 4 years at the commissioners office to get things moving. This Workshop was delivered on the 19th and 20th of August 2015 at Kanapur Police Training Academy Near Belagaum for about 255 staff from Bijapur, Hubli, Bagalkote, Raichur etc.

The topics covered Change management techniques and other were techniques of perception management, ladder of inference, probing and interrogation methods in communications, changing times in citizen behaviour, tools to handle conflict, Pre-empting issues, facilitating role plays, stress identification and dealing with it,

The hospitality and the respect I received from the people there was overwhelming. Especially the cook laxman in the canteen and Driver Shunar Ambalkar was so touching.I loved every moment. What emerged very clearly is that despite all the short comings the personnel have not lost their sight on  their sense of duty and high sense of commitment to bring peace even at the cost of their own health and families bearing the brunt. They need a standing ovation and applause for their outstanding integrity to their commitment.
